Conducting Through the Years

Imagine that you are under aged, undersized, and unconnected to a passion, and your family is also disconnected in your eyes....

At 7 my family faced adversity and it had an affect on me as I was already a grade ahead but a size too small. I needed a way to connect and grow inside and out.

I met caring teachers who shared their lives with me and others, then changed our worlds; educators that launched a lifelong journey of promoting excellence.

Early in life the gift of music was presented to me and opened doors to culture, travel, business, family, and a dynamic future for me and thousands of others. The arts gave me an outlet by which to employ my tenacity, vision, and more.Over the next decade and a half, I would go on to excel in science and arts, but moreimportantly, I discovered my ability to inspire and lead others.

The purpose of this website is to give insight into my skills and experiences that can not always be shared in a simpledocument, such as a resume, or even in a conversation, such as an interview. This site is shared to show how love came alive, pushed me, and helped guide me to qualify in terms of my background, affiliations, techniques, and education throughout my/an approximate three decade career and servant leadership pursuits. From experience as a youth to current service opportunities, please take a look at each tab for an overview of why Lamar A. Phillips will be able to successfully serve as a transformational leader with you and your agency.

I bring researched and documented Transformational and Servant Leadership theories and practices into play.

Within each situational context, I collaborate with others by respectively planning and responding in a timely manner.

Together we create readiness for ourselves and others in order to effectively implement organizational goals.

As one who works with others intentionally and purposefully, it is always an objective to adjust and adapt to both data-based and intuitively driven best practices.

Using these precepts has led and shall continue to lead teams toward mission fulfillment, vision attainment, and success.

LEADERSHIP THEORY FOUNDATIONS USED

Leadership expert James McGregor Burns introduced the concept of Transformational Leadership in his 1978 book, "Leadership.

" He defined it as a process where "leaders and their followers raise one another to higher levels of morality and motivation."

Servant Leadership's 10 characteristics are listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of others, and building community.

What is Servant Leadership?

“The servant-leader is servant first… It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first.” -Robert K. Greenleaf

Servant leadership is a philosophy and set of practices that enriches the lives of individuals,

builds better organizations and ultimately creates a more just and caring world.

Servant Leadership's 10 characteristics are listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of others, and building community.

The Situational Leadership® Model provides leaders with an understanding of the relationship between an effective style of leadership and the level of readiness followers exhibit for a specific task.

Situational Leaders learn to demonstrate four core, common and critical leadership competencies:

  • Diagnose: “Understand the situation they are trying to influence”

  • Adapt: “Adjust their behavior in response to the contingences of the situation”

  • Communicate: “Interact with others in a manner they can understand and accept”

  • Advance: “Manage the movement”
